Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 9. Differs from its congeners in Indochina by the combination of the following characters: body with 7-12 regular dark bars; intestine with a wide loop, anteriorly reaching to stomach; inner rostral barbel reaching to or beyond corner of mouth; outer one clearly reaching beyond base of maxillary barbel; predorsal and dorsal part of body not darkened; predorsal bars meeting their homologues on back; a complete black bar at caudal-fin base; posterior bars not dissociated; long dorsal crests on caudal peduncle in most specimens ; pelvic fin origin below branched dorsal fin rays 1-2; lateral line complete; caudal peduncle 0.9-1.2 times longer than deep; depth of caudal peduncle 13.4-15.6% SL; median caudal-fin ray 72.1-85.7% of length of upper caudal-fin lobe; eye diameter 4.1% SL; lateral head length 102-119% HL; processus dentiformis pointed; a median incision in upper lip in most specimens (Ref. 40772).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Inhabits medium-sized rivers, with its highest densities immediately upstream of riffles with rocks and gravel substratum and low water velocities (Ref. 40772).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00692 (0.00311 - 0.01538), b=3.02 (2.85 - 3.19), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.0   ±0.3 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
