Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Adults inhabit lakes and highland water courses, with sand or mud bottom and underwater vegetation (Ref. 59043). Feed on invertebrates. Spawn in April and May (Ref. 59043). Oviparous, with distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Threatened due to water abstraction and pollution (Ref. 26100).

Life cycle and mating behavior Maturity | Reproduction | Spawning | Eggs | Fecundity | Larvae

During courtship, 'the male follows the female and, after both enter dense vegetation (e.g. filamentous algae), the male forms a complete ring around the female's body behind the dorsal as the female releases the eggs' (Ref. 59043). Probably a multiple spawner (Ref. 59043).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00562 (0.00254 - 0.01244), b=3.05 (2.87 - 3.23), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.5   ±0.37 se; based on food items.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (tmax = 1; Assumed Fec < 10,000).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
