Etymology: breviclipeus: Specific name, breviclipeus, from Latin brevis, for small or brief, and clypeus, for shield, in reference to relatively small size of pore-bearing scales in midlateral series as compared with greatly enlarged, shield-like scales of some congeners (Ref. 114247).

Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range Ecology

Freshwater; benthopelagic. Tropical

Max length : 5.3 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 114247)

Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 8; Vertebrae: 31 - 32. Diagnosis: Uniquely among congeners, Clypeobarbus breviclipeus lacks both maxillary and mandibular barbels; it further differs from all except C. bellcrossi, C. congicus and C. matthesi in possessing large pore-bearing scales in the midlateral series below the dorsal fin, vs. greatly enlarged, high and narrow, 'shield-like' scales in C. pleuropholis, C. bomokandi, C. hypsolepis, C. schoutedeni and C. pseudognathodon; it is readily distinguished from C. bellcrossi in number of scales in the lateral line, 23-24 vs. 25-28, predorsal scale number, 8 vs. 10, and the absence of a series of discrete pigment spots midlaterally along the body; it differs from . congicus in the number of circumpeduncular scale rows, 10 vs. 8, and of lateral-line scales, 23-24 vs. 20-22; and it differs from C. matthesi in number of lateral-line scales, 23-24 vs. 26-28, and body depth, 31.1-36.3% of standard length vs. 19.7-25.7% (Ref. 114247).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5020   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01000 (0.00244 - 0.04107), b=3.04 (2.81 - 3.27), in cm total length, based on all LWR estimates for this body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  2.9   ±0.3 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
