This species can be distinguished from other congeners by the following combination of characters: presence of abdomen fully covered by moderately trapezoidal to quadrangular small plates; caudal peduncle slightly compressed laterally after confluence of lateral keels; smaller orbital diameter; presence of two large anal anterior plates; absence of a specialized chain-like bone structure of 2nd dorsal-fin spine; smaller head length; and, dorsal view of anterior head moderately triangular.
