Diagnosis

This species is distinguished by the following characters: body deep, 22-26% SL; usually pectoral-fin rays 15; presence of a cephalic sensory-canal pore pattern lacking only the IT pore; unbranched pectoral-fin rays; with dorsal/anal-fin ray formula 9/8; the fifth pelvic-fin ray 6-16% of 4th ray. Colouration: body translucent gray background with markings of white, brown, or black, no red coloration; dark rectangular to round spot on area of preural centrum followed by a dark vertical line over the end of hypural plate; caudal fin crossed by 6-7 dark vertical bars when preserved; naris long and black (Ref. 126557).
