Comments Introduced to reservoirs and marshes including in Khuzestan Province and Lake Zaribar, Kordestan by release from private and government fish farms (Ref. 27435). Introduced to the Caspian Sea basin and in reservoirs throughout Iran (Ref. 39702). Does not breed in the wild but is continually stocked and caught for market. Believed to have caused the decline of the native, commercial cyprinid, Barbus sharpeyi in the Shadegan Marshes after young H. molitrix from the Caspian hatcheries were released (Ref. 27435).     Ref:  Coad, B.W., 1996
