Comments: | Introduced in the 1950s. A highly successful species used for stocking into small dams where it fills a planktonophage niche. Gave rise to valuable fisheries especially in Lake Nyumba ya Mungu (Ref. 1739). Has also established in Lake Kitangiri, where it both competes and hybridizes with the endemic Sarotherodon amphimelas (Ref. 13364). Ref: Lever, C., 1996 |
