Definition of Term

abyssal plain
(English) An extensive, flat region of the ocean bottom from 4,000 to 7,000 m; the upper abyssal plain (2000-4000 m) is also often referred to as the continental rise. (See also: abyss, continental slope, continental rise)
plaine abyssale
(French) Région étendue et plate du fond de l'océan de 4,000 à 7,000 mètres ; la plaine abyssale supérieure (2000-4000 m) s'est aussi désigné sous le nom de montée continentale. (See also: abyss, continental slope, continental rise)
planície abissal
