Definition of Term

Coniferophyta
(English) Conifers. A phylum under kingdom Plantae. Trees producing seeds in cones. Usually needle-shaped leaves with a heavy, waxy cuticle. No xylem vessels (only tracheids), no companion cells within phloem tissue. The dominant plant in many northern forests.
