Symptoms: | Lying on bottom, fast swimming motions, loss of weight, sunken belly, suppuration of gallblader, sunken eyes, fingerlings showing pseudofaeces. Also causes necrotic changes in the liver and sometimes ascitis (haemorrhagic dropsy) (Ref. 45600). | |
Treatments: | Enheptin 90 mg/kg/d for 3 to 5 days, oral. | |
Prophylaxis: | Diet must be appropriate. | |
Remarks: | Normally a commensal. Outbreaks can be caused by stress on host fish. Occasionally causes mass mortality. The causative agent cited in Ref. 45600 is Hexamita (Spironucleus) sp.. | |
