Symptoms: | The eyes may contain up to 4 metacercariae free and encysted. Acute infections exhibits exopthalmos and cataracts. | |
Treatments: | Use of Praziquantel (Biltricide[R], Bayer AG, Germany) with a single dosage of 300 mg per 1kg body mass mixed in the food. Then a 3 sequential lower doses of 35-100 mg per 1 kg of body weight and bath treatment of 1 mg per 1 liter for more than 9 hours to 10 mg per liter for 1 hour. | |
Prophylaxis: | ||
Remarks: | The diplostomatid metaceriae usually infects the anterior of vitreous humor not the eye lens. Symptoms in acute stage of the infection will result in the complete collapse of the eye that eventually lead to blindness of either one or both eyes. | |
