Symptoms: | Sluggish movement and the infected fish swims near the surface. Also in heavy infestation, the host fish can have skin-lesions with hemorrhages. The parasite can be easily detected, it is about 15mm in length, blackish in color with an anterior and posterior sucker.
Treatments: | Bath the infested fish with 200-250 ppm formalin added seawater for an hour. Also a strong aeration should be considered because formalin bath can disturb fish respiration. After the formalin bath, the fish should be administered with 1-2 ppm antiobiotic (Prefuran) for 1-2 hours to control secondary bacterial infection.
