Symptoms: | Symptoms differ from each fish species. Some symptoms include dark colors, distended bellies(swolen), intestinal hemorrhages, necrosis in an enlarged spleen; some has a herpes-like virus in the spleen. Infected fish also exhibits bloodshot eyes and skin, and necrotic patches in the internal organs. | |
Treatments: | There is no specific anti-viral drug. The fish can build up immunity to the viral infection, resulting to slow disappearance of the symptoms. | |
Prophylaxis: | Isolate infected fish to prevent further infection of other non-infected fish. | |
Remarks: | Viral infections may appear to have symptoms of bacterial infections or a bacterial infection may occur as a secondary bacterial infection. | |
