Ranges from Point Hope southward; the most northerly population is that of Salmon Lake on Alaska's Seward Peninsula (Ref. 27547). Sockeye have been taken in the Yukon as far upstream as Rampart (Ref. 27547). Most populous in the Kvichak, Naknek, Ugashik, Egegik and Nushagak rivers (Ref. 27547). Sockeye in Alaska commonly spend two years in fresh water and two or three years in the sea, returning to spawn in their fifth or sixth year (Ref. 27547).
