Etymology: Pareutropius: Greek, par = beside, near + Greek, eu = well + Greek, tropis = keel, in reference to the compressed body of the fish;  longifilis: From the Latin "longus" (long) and "filum" (filament), referring to the long barbels of this species (Ref. 43912).

背棘 (总数): 1; 背的软条 (总数): 3-4; 臀棘 0; 臀鳍软条: 50. Diagnosis: two pairs of mandibular barbels; adipose fin small; dorsal fin with only 3-4 soft branched rays; at least 50 branched anal fin rays; 13-15 gill rakers on lower part of anterior branchial arch (Ref. 43912).
