Etymology: Tylochromis: Greek, tylos = callus + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335); elongatus: Named in reference to the relatively elongate, gracile body form of the adult specimens of the species (Ref. 52346). elongatus = Latin for slender (Ref. 52307).

पृष्ठीय रीढ़ (सम्पूर्ण): 14; पृष्ठीय सौफट रेज़ (सम्पूर्ण): 15; ऐनल सौफट रेज़: 7; जानवरों की रीड़ का जोड़: 28. Diagnosis: 15-16 gill-rakers along lower limb of first arch; 36-38 lateral line scales (count started on upper line and continued on lower line, including the intermediate scales); an extremely robust lower pharyngeal jaw with mill-like molariform teeth occupying 2/3 of dentigerous surface (Ref. 52346).

Probably a benthic macrophage (Ref. 52346). Seems to feed mainly on insects and insect larvae; maternal mouthbrooder that does not pair-bond (Ref. 52307).
