Biologie     Glossaire (ex. epibenthic)

Occurs usually along sandy beaches in large black and clearwater tributaries. Often forms schools at night in shallower water (<2 m) flowing swiftly over sandy bottoms. Shoals with Trachydoras microstomus in the Orinoco and T. nattereri and Trachydoras sp. 'mancha-caudal' in the río Nanay, Peru. Feeds mainly on midge larvae. The gut contents of an adult specimen measuring 5.94 cm SL from Rio Orinoco consisted mainly of chironomids (multiple species, mostly larvae, few pupae) along with a few ceratopogonids (larvae) and an empidid pupae) (Ref. 116857).
