Description synthétique
Morphologie | Morphométrie
Épines dorsales (Total): 7; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 9; Épines anales 1; Rayons mous anaux: 8 - 9. This species is distinguished by the following characters: narrow bony interorbital (?40% pupil width); moderate interorbital trench with a slight groove posterodorsal to the eye; pectoral fin rays 17-18, unbranched; predorsal midline with 1-5 cycloid scales in the confined to about the middle third of the distance between the posterodorsal margin of the eye and the base of the spine of the first dorsal fin; upper border of opercle with a single row of 1-3 cycloid scales; alive and freshly collected specimens with oval red hyoid spots connected anteriorly in the midline (Ref. 102609).
Occurs and collected from large coral rubble pieces lying on soft bottoms below the reef slope. Solitary and only single specimens were collected at any given time. Apparently exhibits a similar behaviour to T. meranyx which co-occurs with this species, and has a similar depth distribution (Ref. 102609).
