Short description Morfologia | Morfometria

Raggi dorsali molli (totale): 12-13; Raggi anali molli: 9; Vertebre: 33. Belongs to a group of species, including Characidium xavante, distinguished uniquely by having high number (12-18) of dark, vertical bars on the body, each bar having the width of a scale. Differs from Characidium xavante by a greater number of scales around the caudal peduncle (12 vs. 10), narrower interorbital region (interorbital distance 20.5-28.6 vs. 30.1-38.0% HL) and deeper caudal peduncle (caudal peduncle depth 46.2-57.8% vs. 35.4-44.9% HL). Additional conspicuous external characters which are not unique but are useful in the identification of this species include absence of adipose fin, incomplete lateral line, and presence a dark blotch on the caudal peduncle (Ref. 75787).
