Etymology: Chlidichthys: Greek, chlidos, -eos, ous = collar, bracelet, adornment + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335);  foudioides: Named for the predominantly red- or yellow-headed Mascarene weaver bird genus Foudias (fodies) and the Greek stem 'oides' alluding to the red markings on the head (Ref. 57771).

Rückenflossenstacheln (insgesamt): 2; Rückenflossenweichstrahlen (insgesamt): 22-23; Afterflossenstacheln 2-3; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 12 - 14. Dorsal fin rays usually II, 22; anal fin rays usually III, 13; predorsal scales extending to point ranging from vertical through anterior supraotic pores to just short of anterior interorbital pores; lateral scale series 44-50; ctenoid scales beginning at 2-5 transverse scale rows behind gill opening; and caudal fin length 21.0-23.8 % SL (Ref. 57771).
