Etymology: Eustomias: Greek, eu = good + Greek, stoma = mouth (Ref. 45335);  danae: Named for the R/V DANA whose collections continue to advance knowledge of pelagic organisms and provided the only confirmed specimens of this species (Ref. 35801).

Western Central Pacific: known with certainty only from the South China Sea. There are unconfirmed reports and tentatively identified specimens from the Indian Ocean and western Pacific.
