Etymology: Cantherhines: Greek, kanthos = the outer or inner corner of the eye, where the lids meet, 1646 + Greek, rhinos = nose (Ref. 45335).

Issue
This species is synonym of Cantherhines rapanui (de Buen, 1963) in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2011: Ref. 86697) following Caldwell & Randall (1967). Please send reference.
