Taggstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt): 0; Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt): 10-12; Taggstrålar i analfenan 0; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 8. Diagnosis: Mouth subinferior; barbels absent; lateral line complete; 24-28 scales in lateral line; 12 circumpeduncular scales; no spots on sides; tip of dorsal fin black (Ref. 81639).

Occurs over sandy-muddy substrates near aquatic vegetation composed mainly of the water hyacinth Eichornia crassipes and reed; also occurs over rocks without vegetation (Ref. 27625).
