Has 12-13 + 24-26 = 36-39 myomeres. Two pairs of mandibular barbels present. Auditory region pigmented. Yolk-sac larvae attach themselves to the substrate or the wall of the aquarium using the adhesive surface of the head and barbels, some 2-3 days after hatching. Mouth opens one day after hatching. The yolk is nearly absorbed at 4 days after hatching. Sequence of fin development: Pectoral fin buds are present after hatching; caudal and pectoral (7.8-8.1 mm TL) at about 3 days after hatching.
