Comments: Spawns in about 16 m deep usually off sandy shores. But catches of ripe individuals reported from as deep as 22 m (Ref. 2781); breeding continues until April (Ref. 6150). Males become territorial during the reproductive cycle and provide their territory with a spawning pit by mouthdigging.
