Used in Boulenger 1916 (FB Ref. 1880); a lapsus calami for Eutropius multitaeniatus (Ref. 3570). Apparently not an unjustified emendation as stated in Ref. 43912.
  Etymology of specific epithet  
From the Latin "multus" (many, much) and "taenia" (band) referring to the lateral stripes on the sides and along the anal fin (Ref. 43912).
