Comments | Established in most of the suitable highland lakes and streams like in Lake Kopiago, and the Ramu river systems. Forms a basis for an important fishery in the Sepik River (Ref. 1739). Has an adverse influence on the environment because of its prolific breeding habits and its sucking-mode of feeding which greatly disturbs the substratum causing turbidity. Also competes for available food resources (Ref. 2847). Ref: Allen, G.R., 1991 |
