Definition of Term

floe
(English) Sea ice, either a single unbroken piece or many individual pieces, covering an area of water. A small floe is 10 m to 200 m across; a medium floe is 200 m to 1,000 m across; an ice field is more than 5 miles (8.0 km) across; a land floe is thick fast ice which has broken adrift.
