Definition of Term

carrying capacity
(English) The maximum number of people, or individuals of a particular species, that a given part of the environment can maintain indefinitely, also: the biomass of a population or the number and type of species that a given environment can sustain. May refer to level of use, at a given level of management, at which a natural or man-made resource can sustain itself over long period of time. (See also: population, ecosystem, habitat)

capacidade de carga
