Environment:  pelagic-neritic; marine; depth range 50 - 100 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Ghana to Angola (Mullet Bay and Bay of Elephants). Not reported elsewhere.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found over the continental shelf (Ref. 2683).

Country info:  Recorded from São Tomé Island based on collection and photograph by DOP, caught by local fishers in Lagoa Azul (DOP-ICT 1019-2000, 1: 128 mm SL) (Ref. 34088). Misidentified as Smaris melanurus in Ref. 34498, 34503 (Ref. 34088).
