Max. size:  25 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish; marine
Distribution:  Western Pacific: southern Japan to the Philippines.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults occur in inshore waters, often brackish water. Feed on invertebrates and fishes (Ref. 2118). Eggs are guarded and fanned by the male parent (Ref. 205). Commercially cultured in Japan. Individuals produce sound (Ref. 9137).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Juveniles reported from Nam Wai (Ref. 125515). The species was observed on 101 to 200 occasions during 400 dive surveys on artificial reefs (Ref. 119494). Sold in live fish markets. Caught via purse-seining (Ref. 125552). Also Ref. 94637.
