Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 7; dH range: 20
Distribution:  South America: Amazon River basin, in tributaries of the Ucayali and Amazon rivers in Peru, and the Solimões-Amazon River in Brazil.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Has been caught, sporadically, in lentic environment such as zones of flooded grounds, as well as estuaries where the tidal current is notable, along the banks with thick riverine vegetation. Omnivorous but mainly frugivorous (Ref. 35237).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Present in the Oyapock River. Despite several surveys, no catch of this genus was recorded from the central part of Fr. Guiana before 1984. Later, more specimens were caught in the vicinity of Kourou. The question of a possible exogenic origin is due to an aquarist of Kourou who imported some specimens of this genus in 1980 and 1982 (Ref. 35237). Occurrence in the country is not confirmed (Ref. 36377).
