Family:  Gadidae (Cods and haddocks)
Max. size:  32.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 1000 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Arctic and Northeast Atlantic: widely distributed in western part of Arctic basin, also northwest and northeast coasts of Greenland.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Anal spines: 0-0. Chin barbels rudimentary or absent.
Biology:  Associated with ice (cryopelagic or epontic), found mainly in offshore waters, at or beyond the edge of the continental shelf (Ref. 1371). Feeds on fishes and crustaceans (Ref. 58426). Of little economic value (Ref. 1371).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Caught in the waters around Northeast Greenland and in the area of Thule (Qaanaaq) (Ref. 9925). Two specimens caught at the south coast of Greenland and one specimen caught in Lincoln Sea (Ref. 9925). Also Ref. 9926.
