Family:  Siluridae (Sheatfishes)
Max. size:  400 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 40 kg; max. reported age: 20 years
Environment:  demersal; freshwater, non-migratory
Distribution:  Asia: Amur basin.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 6-6; Anal soft rays: 83-90. Head large and depressed; snout blunt and rounded; mouth large, upper jaw shorter than lower one and reaching backward over hind margin of eyes; maxillary barbels 1 pair reaching pectoral fin; chin barbels 2 pairs.
Biology:  Threatened due to over harvesting, habitat loss and pollution (Ref. 58490).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 14 February 2020 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Inhabits the Ussuri River, Lake Khanka and the Amur downstream of Khabarovsk (Ref. 26334). This has been translocated to areas within the country for stocking in open waters where they have locally established self-sustaining populations (Ref. 45022). nEurRus
