Family:  Galaxiidae (Galaxiids), subfamily: Galaxiinae
Max. size:  11 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Oceania: endemic to New Zealand.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal and anal fins nearly confluent with rounded caudal fin.
Biology:  Inhabit ephemeral areas that dry out over summer and autumn months, where they aestivate in damp areas or under tree roots and logs (Ref. 43717). Spawn all throughout the year (Ref. 33843).

Country info:  Known from the southern part of the North Island and on the west coast of the South Island, from north-west Nelson to Okarito (Ref. 43717). Voucher specimen(s) held at the NMNZ (Ref. 5755).
