Environment:  pelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: occurs in Webi Shebeli (Ref. 42019, 58460), Tana, Galana-Sabaki (Ref. 52331), Pangani, Ruvu, Wami, Ruvu, Rufiji, Kilombero and Ruaha (Ref. 41366, 42019) River systems.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits rivers (Ref. 4967).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from the eastward flowing coastal rivers, including Galana-Sabaki (Ref. 52331) and Tana River (Ref. 52331). A record of Brycinus affinis from the upper reaches of the Athi River (Ref. 30558) is unsubstantiated (Ref. 52331). Copley (1941) (Ref. 41374) misidentified some specimens of Athi and Tana drainages as Alestes nurse (Ref. 52331).
