Distribution:  Pacific Ocean: central Honshu southward, South China Sea and Taiwan.

Country info:  Ranges from central Honshu southward to the East China Sea. Common along the southern coast of Honshu (Ref. 559). Reported from Shirahama, southern Japan (Ref. 37690). May be utilized as a food fish but is not esteemed due to its smell (Ref. 559). Also Ref. 38029.
