Family:  Clariidae (Airbreathing catfishes)
Max. size:  25 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry in India. Vulnerable (Ref. 44149).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in ditches (Ref. 4833); prefers lower reaches of streams, rivers and canal with muddy bottom; commonly found in ponds, swamps and paddy fields (Ref. 44149). Predatory, feeds on small fishes and insects (Ref. 44149).
IUCN Red List Status: Near Threatened (NT); Date assessed: 21 June 2010 Ref. (130435)

Country info:  Known from Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry (Ref. 4833). Also found in Mundumalai, Tamil Nadu (Ref. 44148); Bhavani River and Mettur dam in Tamil Nadu; Periyar drainage, Kerala (Ref. 44149). Also Ref. 41236, 43641, 45255. Status of threat: Vulnerable (Ref. 50614).
