Family:  Tetraodontidae (Puffers), subfamily: Tetraodontinae
Max. size:  15.9 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 83.3 g
Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Japan and southern Korea to Vietnam (Ref. 46893).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  During high tide, mature individuals swim ashore in large numbers and spawn on beaches. Eggs are left partially buried in sand and rubble (Ref. 240).

Threat to humans:  poisonous to eat
Country info:  Reported from Starfish Bay, Kei Ling Ha Lo Wai, Wong Chuk Wan, Sha Ha, and Nam Wai (Ref. 125515). Also reported from the Cape D'Aguilar Marine Reserve (Ref. 129329). Sometimes enter estuaries, eventually rivers and streams. Reported from the Tai Ho stream in Lantau Island (Ref. 129476). Also Ref. 94637.
