Environment:  benthopelagic; marine
Distribution:  Pacific Ocean: central Honshu southward, South China Sea and Taiwan.

Biology:  Commercially cultured in Japan.

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Reported from Tung Ping Chau (Ref. 94637); and Cape D'Aguilar (Ref. 129329). Also reported from rocky areas in Port Island and Tsim Chau. All observed individuals were less than 20 cm in length (Ref. 128523). The species was observed on 2 to 10 occasions during 400 dive surveys on artificial reefs (Ref. 119494). Live food fish (Ref. 40944). Sold in live fish markets. Caught using nets (Ref. 125552). Also Ref. 12087.
