Family:  Zoarcidae (Eelpouts), subfamily: Gymnelinae
Max. size:  56 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 320 m
Distribution:  Arctic: Greenland and Canadian Arctic. Northeast Pacific: Bering Sea (Ref. 51665). Northern Atlantic: Canada and Barents Sea. Replaced by other species in the Arctic seas of Eurasia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits continental shelves, but generally living in shallower water (Ref. 11954); usually live over sand and muddy bottoms among seaweeds (Ref. 5951). Benthic; feeds on crustaceans, worms and clams (Ref. 58426).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Common along the west coast from Cape Farewell to Upernavik. Reported from Ellesmere Island and does probably occur around Thule. On the east coast it occurs as far north as Danmarks Havn (Ref. 9926). Museum: Greenland, ZMUC 8 (Ref. 11954). Also Ref. 9925, 27319.
