Family:  Myxinidae (Hagfishes), subfamily: Eptatretinae
Max. size:  37.7 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range - 180 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: southwest of Taiwan (northern South China Sea).
Diagnosis:  5 pairs gill pouches and gill apertures, closely spaced in a straight line; branchial slime pores absent; fused unicuspid teeth 3/3; dental formula: 10 + 3/3 + 10; no whitish mid-dorsal stripe.

Country info:  Known from Gaoxiong and Donggang (Ref. 47843). Museum: Tong-Kong, SW of Taiwan, NTU 7502711 (holotype of P. cheni, 37.7 cm TL, female) (Ref. 31448). However, holotype entered in the Catalog of Fishes is NTUM 02723 (Ref. 26282). Also Ref. 31545.
