Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: China.
Diagnosis:  Body grayish dark on head and back, pale yellow on sides and with several numbers of grayish round marks on upper part, white on belly; paired fins and anal fin reddish. Length of head longer than depth of body; barbels 2 pairs; eyes located above the front section of head; lateral line scales larger than scales of body (Ref. 45536).

Country info:  Type locality, Sea of Tien [Tien Chih], Yunnan Fu, China, elev. 6000 ft. (Ref. 33021). Reported from the lower reaches of the Jinshajiang R. (below Shigu), of the Yangtze R. system (Ref. 45259). The introduction of exotic species in Dianchi Lake has greatly reduced its range and number (Ref. 45864). Also found in the Fuxian Lake, Yunnan Province (Ref. 26563). Also Ref. 31517, 35840, 45536, 86777. Status of threat: Endangered (Ref. 45536).
