Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: coastal streams from southeastern Santa Catarina to northeastern Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabit small to moderate-sized streams or rivers (Ref. 30267).
IUCN Red List Status: Near Threatened (NT); Date assessed: 07 November 2018 (B1b(iii)) Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Found in coastal streams from southeastern Santa Catarina to northeastern Rio Grande do Su (Ref. 38597). Museum: near Praia Grande, Rio Faxinalzinho at Mae dos Homens, Santa Catarina, MZUSP 40278 (holotype of M. rheocharis, 4.73 cm SL) (Ref. 27925).
