Max. size:  60 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 4 m
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean: endemic to Australia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 0-0; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 0-0. Color pattern of grey saddles separated by light areas and outlined by numerous small black spots (hatchlings have a simpler pattern of dark saddles, remarkably similar to Acanthophthalmus semicinctus) (Ref. 11146).
Biology:  A little-known inshore catshark found on sandy and rocky bottom (Ref. 11146). Oviparous (Ref. 50449). Hatching length around 10 cm (Ref. 6871).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 08 May 2015 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Occurs in northernwestern Australia, from Port Hedland, Western Australia to Melville I., Northern Territory (Ref. 6871). Abundant inshore along the Northern Territory coast (Ref. 6871). Reported from Queensland but these records need verification (Ref. 6871). Also Ref. 244, 11146.
