Family:  Phosichthyidae (Lightfishes)
Max. size:  8 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 3 years
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 100 - 500 m
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: Papua New Guinea. Eastern Pacific: throughout the California Current region, usually south of Point Conception and seaward of shelf (Ref. 35839); also in Chile (Ref. 9068).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-16; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 13-17; Vertebrae: 39-43. Branchiostegal rays: 12.
Biology:  Found in the epipelagic and mesopelagic zone (Ref. 35839). Oviparous, with planktonic eggs and larvae (Ref. 35839).
