Syngnathus carinatus (Gilbert, 1892)

Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  23 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Eastern Central Pacific: endemic to the northern Gulf of California.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males may be mature at 17.5 cm SL.
