Distribution:  South America: Amazon and Orinoco River basins (living in the main channel of large rivers).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 0-0; Anal soft rays: 197-215. Mouth subterminal; dorsal profile of body smoothly convex and almost straight ventrally; greatest body depth 11-13% in length to end of anal fin (LEA) and 13-15% of anal fin base; head length 13-17% in LEA and 15-21% of anal fin base; anal fin origin at level of gill opening; anal rays 197-215.
