Family:  Triglidae (Searobins), subfamily: Pterygotriglinae
Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range - 500 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: from Japan southward through the South China Sea, Indonesia, and northwestern Australia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal soft rays: 11-12. This species is distinguished by having the following characters: absence of scales on the nape, prepectoral area, breast, or interpelvic area; long and strong cleithral spine (16-29 % SL), P1 12+3; a slight indication of possible hyperostosis of the first infraorbital bone and cleithral spine (Ref. 91768).
Biology:  A rare (Ref. 9771), benthic (Ref. 75154) species that inhabits continental shelves and insular areas.
