Family:  Heptapteridae (Three-barbeled catfishes)
Max. size:  34 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Guyana and French Guiana (Ref. 36914); reported from Peru (Ref. 6329) and Argentina (Ref. 9086) and Suriname (Ref. 59052).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs over sand in creeks and rivers. Very voracious (Ref. 27188). The genital tracts are organized like those of Rhamdia. Eye size changes according to sex (Ref. 35381).
